For actors & speakers, any level.  Class taught in English, with translations into Spanish or Catalan as needed.

The human speaking voice is naturally capable of expressing the entire range of human experience. In order to access that capacity, this work aims to remove the physical and psychological blocks that inhibit the human vocal instrument, beginning by awakening a sensory and imagistic relationship with voice. 

Participants will be led through exercises for physical awareness (to locate tension and release it), to awareness of natural breathing, the experience of sound in the body, and the release of tension in the throat, jaw, tongue and soft palate.  With dedicated practice, participants will experience increased clarity and more natural speaking.

This course is a practical approach to the first part of the progression of exercises developed by Kristin Linklater. The objective of the work is a voice in direct contact with emotional impulse, shaped by the intellect but not restricted by it. Once the voice is free it can connect viscerally with language, transforming communication and interpretative skills. 

Be aware that exercises include adapted yoga positions, floor relaxation, arm-swings and other physical activities. All these can be adjusted to individual physical needs.

Participants should bring:

Loose clothing for work. No belts. No jeans.

Up to 20 lines of a memorised text that has meaning for you. This can be a poem or a dramatic speech from any period.
